A Hard-Won Victory
We have finally finally got financing for the Pre Study When We Were One –which we have been taking great pains over since our previous idea Museum Doctors broke down in May 2009.
The process has included discussions, travels, meetings, many many phone calls and e-mails which have resulted in 10 000€ making it possible to transform our idea into an Interreg-application in November.
The project idea
Attached you find the Project Plan ”When We Were One”, ver. 2010-04-01. You’ll recognise it, it hasn’t changed much..
Budget
Vi will get 5 000 € from the Swedish Cultural Fund in Finland and 5 000 € from The Nordic Council of Ministers, the latter on the condition that we invest as much ourselves. We will do it by putting in our own work and I am asking for your help.
What i am asking of you
My plan is that you contribute to the Work Packages 4, 5 and 6 (page 3 i the Project Plan). If Estonia, Sweden and Finland each work 50 hours (without being paid) it will equivalent 3 000 € (an hour is worth 20 €). From Åland we will do the same + part of the project management job = another 50 hours. Thus it will all sum up to 5 000 €.
You will gather facts, registers and maps of remnants from and support for the older history of the archipelago. You will point out neighbouring projects that touch common ground. You may very well engage others. A meeting between 4 persons for 4 hours makes 16 hours, plus preparations.
It shouldn’t be too hard to make fifty hours. Or else you must tell me!
We cannot pay for your time but travels and other direct costs can be compensated if agreed in advance and verified.
Not interesting?
Some of you may feel that ancient history isn’t interesting. The art of photography wasn’t invented 1719, two-stroke engines and tractors came to the archipelagos in the 1920’s. Please bear in mind that the planned, main project isn’t intended solely for us – the archipelago museums. Its aim is to develop the small islands’ ancient cultural heritage and make it visible for both residents and visitors. Our task is to make a Pre Study for this. We have got financing to be the local pilots.
Yearly fee
Coming up with a good, financed project I feel that I can have the guts to invoice you the modest sum of 20 € for 2010. The bill is attached to this Easter Letter.
I hope you share my enthusiasm and wish you all a Happy Easter!
Your Chairman
Christian
”Skärgårdsmuseiföreningen” stands for Archipelago museum association. The members are all small museums within the archipelagoes of Estonia, southern Finland, Åland and eastern Sweden.
The objective is to strengthen all the small museums in the area through cooperation.
A new project: the early history of the archipelago
The board of the Association of the Archipelago Museums decided on July, 5 to examine the possibility to be a partner in a new project with the Stiftelsen Vasakungarnas Djurhamn, Skärgårdsstiftelsen, Södertörns högskola, Åbo Akademi and Visit Skärgården.
The project derives from the lack of scientifically based knowledge and understanding of the early history of the archipelagoes.
The objective of the project is to develop exhibitions, products and documentation regarding the history from the 18th century and backwards of the archipelagoes of the Central Baltic.
The project aims to build a network of scientists, museum people, amateurs and cultural tourism in the archipelago of Moonsund and the Estonian coastline; the archipelago parts of Varsinais Soumi; Åland; the archipelago parts of Uppsala, Stockholm and Östergötland.
We are seeking funds from the Central Baltic Interreg IVA program. The application should be handed in between September, 15 and October, 15.
We are planning to have the annual meeting of our association on Djurö outside Stockholm on October, 8.
